Hi, I’m Alex, the slightly accident-prone traveller behind Teddy Bears Travels .com

Since 2022 my loyal teddy bear has joined me on almost every adventure, from the deserts of Jordan to the streets of Prague, and together we’ve explored dozens of countries, made plenty of mistakes, and somehow always come home with another story to tell.

This website is where I share those adventures, practical travel advice, budget travel tips and plenty of moments that didn’t exactly go according to plan. So, buckle up, fasten your seat belt and get ready for the Teddy!

Why I Started This Website

My older sister I should mention is the one who bought Teddy for me. I remember after first getting him she said basically that I had to bring this bear with me everywhere that I travelled to around the world.

It’s quite funny now when I think about it. So far Teddy has been with me to… I have lost count of how many countries. Since I’ve had him I think only once I left him behind – which I blame on one of my friends (the Gremlins) for making me forget.

I started Teddybearstravels.com one night back in 2023. I was proper out of my face when I bought the domain and I’m sure I wouldn’t have started this website otherwise. Mostly because the work involved with my two other websites – (DynamicIdeas4Life.com and SecretGardenofMind.com). Working on those besides running my eBay reselling business is very time consuming already.

I mean, I suppose I shouldn’t just blame starting Teddy Bears Travels on getting drunk. The Idea I think must have been there already but either way – thanks to who ever got me drunk on that night. You can thank them for having this blog to read.

A Travel Blog For My Teddy Bear

I would argue with you and say that this website is more about me then a silly cuddly toy (don’t tell him I called him that). It is very much all about my travels but of course without Teddy there would be no website. In fact, this Teddy Bear is a big motivator for me – one reason to visit the 7 Wonders of the World and another to visit every country in Europe.

So, 2 Wonders of the World have already been ticked off the list. The Colosseum in Rome was the 1st one followed by Petra 3 months later.

The other 5 me and Teddy are still yet to visit are;

• The Great Wall of China
• Christ the Redeemer Statue In Brazil
• The Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt,
• Machu Pichu Peru, and
• Chicken Itza in Mexico

As for Europe we have about 10-15 countries left to go.

Keep reading Teddy Bears Travels to see how we get on with finding our way to these places. This is definitely the main goal of this project along with maybe getting photos in front of The Taj Mahal in India and The Statue of Liberty in New York.

The Eifel Tower in France is the other main place Teddy always wanted to go to. Fortunately this we got to see back in 2024 at the end of a long 11 days where we passed through 9 different European countries.

He is a very lucky bear. When my sister first bought him for me I’m sure she would have never guessed how many places this bear would go. I am sure one day I will take great pleasure in telling people about all these adventures. Perhaps in the next 5 years there will be photos of Teddy at all 7 Wonders of the World – I can’t just see it – and I think it’s very possible.

Funniest Travel Moments (Since You’re Wondering)

As you will see from the list (scroll down to read it) I’ve been to a lot of places over the past few years and my first trip to the Greek Island of Crete was where it all began.

My first holiday disaster happened during a stop-over in Prague to get here. The trouble was that my flight was in the early hours (I think 1.50AM). I think maybe the flight was delayed, and whilst sitting on a chair waiting for my gate number to be announced I kept falling asleep.

It was every 10 minutes or so I would find myself waking up in a panic. It seemed like it was almost inevitable because I fell asleep again and my flight had gone. It cost me I think £125 for this mishap to get on another flight but I suppose I did get to spend a good few hours at the bar in Prague airport. Which I suppose was the silver lining.

It’s funny how many times I’ve been back here since this 1st time. Prague has certainly giving me my fair share of laughs. The Marshmallow men have give me so many jokes since my first actual visit into the City.

These are the guys who do the boats and I guess I suppose between me and some of my friends there is just something about me when I see them lol

I’ll never forget this 2nd trip to Prague, it was during Covid (February 2021) and I lied to get in the country by saying I was there for a funeral. At the time they was not letting unvaccinated people in unless for reasons like this.

I could not help but laugh about it. The whole time I was drunk, and I spent at least 2 nights out on the street because I could not find my way around.

It was my friends stag and it was definitely a bit of a mad one. I won’t go into the finite details of it all but my 2nd time In Prague and I missed my flight again. It was a disaster – the charge was running out on my phone and with my last bit of battery they wanted me to fill out a passenger locator form. Something I couldn’t do in time and this being the case they would not let me board my plane.

I had no choice but to go back out into the airport – and on my way I was stopped by the police. They was not willing to let me back out into the City and they pretty much demanded that I booked a new flight right there and then. Their face when I showed them my flight – I was under so much pressure that the first flight I booked was for a year in the future lol.

Then I had to book another – this time I booked one with a stopover in Milan. Annoyingly, the police said I couldn’t get it because I would have not been allowed in Italy. It was quite funny in a way, I was all over the place mentally and the police woman here because she thought I had been in Prague for a funeral was very – what can I say – compassionate lol. I was proper milking it – bad I know but let’s just say she wasn’t exactly ugly.

I was left to go after this. Ironically 3 of my friends from the stag do also missed their flights for the same reason and because they was here I was allowed to go back out into the City to meet them.

It was a funny night, we got drunk at the Irish pub in old town and sung about the Marshmallow men. The next day I missed my flight again but fortunately a friend who I was with got me on to the same flight he was on and that was that – it was finally over.

The Man with the Golden Gun

This was a NIGHTMARE. The 2nd ever time I went to Malta I met up with my friends here (The Gremlins). It was a very strange holiday. I had to spend 3 nights out on the street because I didn’t book my hostel for long enough – and it was pure chaos.

It was fun I guess for the most part. I was getting up to all sorts (I will spare the details) but where it really went wrong is when I lost my phone!

This really became a problem after I left Malta. Mostly because to get the cheapest possible return flight I had a stopover in Budapest. This was an overnight stay. I’d booked myself to stay in a place called the Garden Hostel, and I didn’t really think there would be any problems.

I even paid for a transfer at the airport to make sure I definitely got here with no issue – but just typical – I got dropped off and I couldn’t find it. I don’t know if it was just round the corner or what, but I was walking around like a headless chicken. Stopping everyone I see to ask if they knew where this was.

I’d walked past this same guy about 3 or 4 times. He eventually said he would help me and got me to get into his taxi with him and his mate in the front. My hostel I think they said was on the other side in Pest and the plan changed to finding me somewhere else to stay but as it was late there really wasn’t many options.

They was driving me around for almost an hour until we found a place. I needed to pay £100 in HGF (£50 for the place and £50 for the taxi). I did not have even half of this. I was kept in the back of the taxi for a good 5-10 minutes after this, whilst they decided what to do with me. On the phone they was talking to some woman in Hungarian – and they was asking if I was Gay – that was really worrying but they was having a bit of a giggle so I think they was just having a laugh.

They let me go thankfully shortly after this. Lucky for me they was good enough people to not get violent or call the police. Surprisingly for me they just let me out and said “take your bags you are on your own now there is nothing more we can do”.

After this is when I crossed paths with The Man with the Golden Gun. He was a random guy I started walking towards at the bus stop. I am sure I was not looking very well (mentally) and when I got close to him he lifted up his jacket and showed me what looked like a golden gun. In my mind he was saying something like “don’t come any closer you wierdo”.

I definitely got the message – I grabbed my bags and run. Jumped on the next bus without paying and I was off. I’m sure he was laughing as I started running away. I can just imagine the look on my face – it must have been comedy gold. The guy I can just imagine lit a cigar after I went with his golden gun. It was probably just one of those lighters you can get.

Who knows – maybe this was a Hungarian Gangster that I really didn’t want to mess with.

Losing Teddy In Austria

This was another holiday disaster, and worst of all – it was in 2024 when I wasn’t even drinking alcohol, and It was a trip where everything seemed to be going quite well. No problems whatsoever until I caught this train from Budapest to Vienna Austria.

In my bag I had Teddy, my laptop and one of my other characters I travel with Colin Wong. I got off the train and I picked up my bag with my clothes but what I didn’t pick up was this other bag that I had Teddy in.

This was absolutely horrifying, it felt like I would have to give up travelling because after all what is Teddy Bears Travels without Teddy? My reaction really said it all – when I realised it was like when you hear one of those long “No’s” on a TV sitcom – I swore so loud it echoed all round the train station and all the pigeons around me started flying away in what seemed like slow motion.

I’m sure again on this occasion people were all laughing their heads off. I just wanted to cry but all they could see was some odd British guy screaming and scaring away all the pigeons in the most dramatic way possible.

I got Teddy back a couple days after this, thankfully, from the lost and found in Prague (the next stop from Vienna). It kind of ruined my stay here in a lot of ways. I still went to the zoo but I really couldn’t relax until I got the email saying my bag had been found.

Being Rescued by a Man on a Donkey

This was one of my most recent holiday disasters. When I went to Petra Jordan, after I’d seen the tombs, I decided to start walking through the desert towards what I thought was the nearby Wadi Musa City Centre.

I don’t know what I was thinking. The more I walked the more difficult it got. I came off the trail and the only way to walk was over this big dusty hill. I’d seen some Bedouins before this. They told me to go back the other way I came but now I was pretty much stuck.

I don’t know how I would have fared on my own if I had just kept going, but lucky for me another Bedouin spotted me and offered his donkey for me to ride – on the way back to his village (Umm Sayhoun).

It was quite unbelievable really – this man took me back to his house, and even invited me to stay for dinner. Then the next day and the day after we met up again and he took me to the Monastery and up Mount Aaron. Two places I certainly would have never seen otherwise. He wanted money of course but for only £150 I thought this was very fair – especially since I had dinner with him and his family for 3 days in a row.
