Utilizing Wealthy Affiliate As A Travel Blogger – My Own Experience
Utilizing Wealthy Affiliate As A Travel Blogger – My Own Experience
6 years ago I first made the decision to get back into blogging again. In this post I want to talk about Utilizing Wealthy Affiliate as a Travel Blogger. This is something I do currently and I think for anyone that wants to blog about their travels this could be a good platform to consider.
I’m sure this membership isn’t something that will be for everyone but from my viewpoint I think I can definitely share some good reasons why this might be just might be the perfect fit for new travels bloggers looking to make a name for themselves and to help fund their exciting adventures for the years ahead.
So, a Little Bit About Me
I first joined WA after giving blogging up some years before. I had just got into eBay and the more I did that the less time I spent making blogs – to the point I didn’t really do it anymore.
It was not that I got bored of it or I didn’t like doing it but I was just so distracted. The reality of actually making money on eBay kind of lost my focus towards blogging.
Although, I still vividly remember missing the feeling of writing blog posts and I remember just standing there in a chip shop one day thinking how I’d love to get back into it again.
Fast forward to December 2019 and one day I decided to Google How To Make Money Online?
The fact was that things were hard. I had a negative balance in my PayPal, eBay wasn’t going well and eBay just wasn’t the fast solution to make money that I needed.
It was the right move. Doing this was what led me to start blogging again and through that what led to me finding out about Wealthy Affiliate.
And I am so glad I found out about this about this platform.
My first month blogging again was kind of like a miracle. I’d booked flights to go to Ireland with my cousin – Β£5 a flight with Ryanair during the black friday sale. It seemed like a good idea at the time but come January I really wasn’t sure how I would afford it.
He said we should cancel – and I thought we would have to. He wasn’t in a position to pay for both of us to go and I was worried.
But then it happened. It was so weird I’d started blogging again on New Year’s Eve and by some kind of magic luck I somehow made $450 off one of my first blog posts.

It felt like the best feeling ever.
Perhaps it was a fluke and if I’m being honest it wasn’t like this was straight away an ongoing thing but I joined Wealthy Affiliate and this was what got me started with making websites and earning money through affiliate marketing.
About Wealthy Affiliate

Really, Wealthy Affiliate isn’t exactly a specific platform for travel bloggers. It is more for any kind of content creator. It is a base for learning and getting started with WordPress.
I actually first started with Blogger but in my mind if you want to do this properly then this is a a great resource in so many ways.
Side Note: when getting started with blog posts on a new website be sure to share on Social Media.
Facebook I think was my saviour here. Also be sure to make sure you have your affiliate links in your posts and this is the key.
Looking Back At When I First Joined WA
This feels like a lifetime ago now, and fast forward to 2026 (at the time of me now writing this) It has been 6 years since I first signed up as new WA member.
The immediate benefits for me at the time was primarily the training but mostly because of what was on offer with helping me to get set up on WordPress.
There was also the opportunity to host 50 websites (it is now only 10) and I also got a very tempting 50% discount on my first months membership (something else they no longer do).
But the main thing was I wanted to make a proper go of it as a blogger and this was somewhere that made it easy to learn the ropes.
I think probably, I didn’t really quite realise the extent of what was on offer back then. The domain parking at WA and hosting alone I think is so convenient and the amount of times WA site support have come to my rescue.
If I had gone the cheaper route with blue host and GoDaddy I don’t think I’d still be doing this now. The hassle of having to log in to both and the lack of training and support. I wouldn’t recommend either to anyone wanting to get started.
What Has Changed About WA Since 2020
Firstly, as mentioned above you can no longer entice referrals with 50% off the first month but it is still possible to join for free and to see what is actually on offer.
Having just created a test account with my Gmail. Basically, only to give me a better idea for writing this blog post – I see that;
- you can get started with the first stages of training
- Set up a website with a free SiteRubix domain
- Get 2000 free A.I credits – great for WA’s Image Studio
- and you can set up a business hub to get ideas for your new site
Also, one thing that hasn’t changed is the chance to refer and earn through WA’s own affiliate program. I am suppose I am a bit biased for this reason – but if you sign up with my link π and decide to upgrade after then I will earn a 50% recurring commission.
Anyone who joins can do this as well and this can help pay your membership over and over again – as long as you can persuade people that what is on offer here is really worth it. I would say it is but I will let you make your own mind up.
In hindsight I think the benefits of this platform are more than just making a quick buck through their affiliate program. Although, if that is something you can utilize in the right way its a huge incentive but certainly, there is more.
For travel bloggers. The elephant in the room is how you can do this to make money π· Of course, It doesn’t have to be with WA but in my opinion should you take this route I think it can be very beneficial in the long run.
Understanding the Affiliate Marketing Ecosystem

Certainly, this isn’t the only way to make money as a travel blogger. You can utilize many things such as;
- Digital Products,
- Services
- Sponsorships and
- On page advertising (Google Adsense etc.)
Although, for the most immediate effect and earning potential affiliate marketing really is on another level.
Clickbank was the place that I made my first affiliate commissions through all those years back. Its a great place to get started with your first affiliate links.
You can also try other websites such as AWIN, Impact, Digistore24 and JVZOO. Otherwise just search for affiliate programs on Google. Most companies websites will have one. See if you can find a link to apply or simply just contact them to ask.
Side note: I would recommend Clickbank but it should be noted that there are a lot of crappy products on here and it doesn’t offer a whole lot of offers that a travel blogger would really want except I think language courses.
It is great for supplements and digital courses but for travel bloggers you want to really find affiliate programs that are more related to what you do.
*Viator is an easy one to join for starters. Although it has not really paid well for me personally it is something I use often and it is a great service to recommend.
How Wealthy Affiliate serves Travel Bloggers Uniquely

For, any aspiring travel bloggers I will say that WA is not specifically tailored for the travel niche it’s for anyone that wants to learn how to build websites.
There is no extra benefit for joining this platform for any blogging niche in particular but it can help you set up a good website which is exactly what you need.
Also, another thing – if you want to earn money whilst travelling something else is you will eventually be able to offer is website development services from what you’ve learned from creating your own websites and from what you’ve picked up with WA’s training.
You can even offer up your spare hosting slots whilst you have them.
I do not do this myself as I find myself far too busy developing my own websites but I know some members do this and it can be very lucrative.
Although, what you really will be wanting to utilize through WA’s tools and training as a travel blogger is to make blog posts that can earn you money with through affiliate marketing.
I haven’t personally gone through the training for quite some time now except a recent weekly class I took to learn about how to get traffic with Pinterest. Just this has really got me excited about blogging again after seeing the results but this is just one thing – the knowledge that can be found on this site is insane.
Benefits of using Wealthy Affiliate as a Learning and Earning Platform

For new members of course Wealthy Affiliates own affiliate program is the main thing that you can earn money from. If you can get someone to join through your own affiliate link π you will earn 50% recurring commissions.
Whether that be every month or every year – each time your referral pays you will get 50% but besides this another new thing is that every reply, every like even to other peoples on site blog posts, threads etc. You earn $0.01 USD – it isn’t much but it certainly soon adds up if you are active enough with other members.
In respect to learning the big thing is that you can take what you learn from WA to earn money from your sites. How to set up your posts, your website structure and how to get traffic to your content and affiliate links.
This is really the main reason to join WA – just be sure to follow the training and take the necessary actions. Also, don’t hesitate to reach out to the WA community to ask for help whenever that you find yourself needing it.
Setting Up for Success: Creating a Winning Travel Blog Using Wealthy Affiliate Tools

So, lets say you want to start a travel blog. The main tools you will have at your disposal are things like Jaaxy keyword research tool, Wealthy Affiliate Hubs that will help you come up with countless ideas for different blog posts and everything shown in the image above;
- Logo Designer
- Image Studio
- Content Writer
- Niche Finder
- Website Builder
- Affiliate Finder
I personally use other tools such as ChatGPT and Canva (both free to use) but really you can’t know the tools that Wealthy Affiliate offers itself. If you wonder how I made some of the images in this blog post – I used WA Image Studio. It’s great but everything else here can be really great too.
Step-by-Step Guide to Building a Travel Blog with Wealthy Affiliate

I actually only started my travel blog TeddyBearsTravels.com about 2 years ago now. This is because I am addicted to travelling. I’ve been going away on a frequent basis since when I first went to Crete in 2017. Almost 10 years ago…
I will come back to this but let’s say you just are a bit like me – you find yourself going away far too much and just sharing photos is not quite enough.
Then well, start a travel blog/website may just be exactly what your looking for.
You will of course need a name that sounds good to you. You will need a domain and hosting. Then you will need to set up a WordPress website
Once you got this you will have to set up the basic pages – about me, affiliate disclosure and privacy policy.
You can then make your first blog post.
I would suggest sharing your story from one of your recent travel adventures – I would guess this comes pretty naturally. For me travel blogging is like nothing else because it is mostly me telling my stories and sharing my photos.
You should find this very easy using Wealthy Affiliates website builder and through their training – by the end of it you will have a ready to use website for whenever you get the itch to write.
Optimizing your Blog for Growth and Engagement
In the grander scheme of things it should be noted that after you hit the publish button remember there are always little things you can do after. Editing your blog after can make so much of a difference – ChatGPT is actually great for this because it knows SEO and it will tell you what changes to make.
Although, I would say instead of over obsessing on all your blogs being perfect definitely aim for quantity as well. For a new website 25 posts is typically when you will get approved for Google Adsense.
It is a funny one really because to really earn any money from Adsense you will need a lot of traffic and honestly it probably is better not to have it at all if you can successfully convert your affiliate offers.
So, really in hindsight keep on making things better and definitely do what you can to attract new visitors to your site and get them to engage with you.
Content Strategy: Building Captivating and Consistent Travel Stories

So, for me I am not just a travel blogger. My main website is in the healthy living niche and I have another in the kind of metaphysical/spiritual niche. If truth be told I do get a lot of help from ai for these other sites but what I really like when it comes to travel blogging is I don’t need any help as everything I write about is stuff that has happened.
A saying I come up with many years ago was “good stories write themselves” and I think they really do.
These days I have realized that just from going away this gives me plenty to tell people about. From the man with the golden gun to the monkeys in Morocco. The Marshmallow men and the time I went to 14 countries in 11 days. My life is nuts π€ͺ but when you throw yourself to the wind π a hurricane π is to be expected.
However, there is so much more and even without going away as a travel blogger there is so much more you can write about the ideas just keep coming. Travel tips for example, best of reviews…, places you’ve always wanted to go to etc.
The best part is that by using Wealthy Affiliateβs training resources this gives you a a nice little cherry π on top. Making all this other extra content could not be easier.
Monetizing Travel Adventures: Affiliate Marketing Strategies That Work

The beauty of this all is going away doesn’t have to be a pain in the backside after you get back. In regards to the money you spend you can utilize every part of your experience to try and make your money back.
As you should most likely find out people love to know what you have been up to. In my case living in England where the weather is hit or usually miss – going away to countries where just the weather is better is very Intriguing for people.
And this is before you tell them about going up mountains, seeing wild monkeys or the bluest water and golden beaches that you never thought were real.
If you live in a dull grey country where its always raining and people are always moaning then just think how different these places are.
You can then get clever. Tell them how they could do this for themselves but with one catch – they have to book through your own personal recommendations.
You give them your affiliate link – simple as that!
Different Approaches to Affiliate Marketing for Travel Blogs
When getting started with a new blog a vital part is finding the right services that you can share with your readers that are helpful for what they want to do.
In the travel niche you have a few things you can look at what will resonate with your readers such as good deals for:
- Accommodation
- Flights
- Tours
- Travel cards
- ESIMS
And things like travel cases, and Accessories.
The more you grow your site the more opportunities will become available.
What businesses offering affiliate marketing opportunities want is attention so the more traffic you can drive to their products the more what you will find is on offer.
Many will not accept you at first but once you can show them your success with other offers the more attractive the proposal becomes.
Engage and Grow: Building an Active, Loyal Community of Followers
Networking is very important if you want to do this as a business. Personally, I actually quite like sharing my story about what I got up to but the fact of the matter is that you still need to get your name out there.
Relying on Google and other search engines is not only lazy but it really is not enough to make money π· until you really have a good following online.
Social media is great here. Social networking is the key:
- Facebook,
- Reddit,
- Quora
- X.com
- Instagram
and any sites you can share your work are important. I would have never have made my first commissions so early if it wasn’t for sharing my work on Social Media so keep this in mind.
My Number 1 tip if you are taking a lot of photos and videos share these on sites like Pinterest and Instagram. Even TikTok or Youtube if you are making videos and share your link to your blog posts with your social media posts.
Leveraging Wealthy Affiliate’s Community for Networking

Probably the best thing about Wealthy Affiliate is its community. All people in the exact same boat that want to be successful as bloggers and website owners.
Recently, (a training video shared on WA) what I thought was amazing was how to set up a campaign on Pinterest with trending keywords. The effect of this I noticed pretty fast. Considering I wasn’t doing much with Social media before it was such a wake up call.
It’s like you just need to interact with people that can help and give you ideas. Wealthy Affiliate is great for this. You can talk to people on Facebook but not many people that are genuinely there to help.
Reddit is great for asking questions but has a lot of rude people answering. By comparison WA is really quite special. The other members here only want you to succeed and if you need any help you will usually find someone with the answer.
Strategies to Increase Audience Interaction and Engagement
This really the key to being successful generally speaking. Don’t expect people to just stumble upon you on Google. This typically doesn’t happen till you really nail your content and SEO down so use other places online to get eyes on your work.
My strategy for Pinterest at the moment is to create boards with trending keywords that I get from searching on trends.pinterest. I make 25 blog posts and 5 Pins for each = 125 pins. I also share each blog on X.com after I have posted and I use a content scheduler for my Facebook page (Paddypost).
I wasn’t doing this before and honestly it can make such a difference.
Using Feedback to Create Valuable Travel Content
Beyond social media marketing never overlook what you are actually publishing. Having a good eye to spot mistakes and think of improvements is very important but further to this your interactions with your readers will give you even further insight to make improvements.
Ask for comments and criticism.
ChatGPT is great I use it a lot but nothing beats the actual words of real people so ask people to share what they think and definitely take everyone seriously that you feel are genuine people.
Overcoming Challenges: Addressing Common Issues Faced by Travel Bloggers
This will be my conclusion. In regards to being a travel blogger it’s a very popular niche with a lot of competition.
For any budding writers in this niche it is something you must make your own. The SEO keyword competition for instance can be very fierce. The best way is to build a following get readers Interested and coming back.
Don’t rely on ai write your blog posts too much. Write from the heart β₯ and look past just being a reliable source of information. Sing a song that your readers will like – the real niche is YOU so make sure people feel that.
Identifying Potential Roadblocks for Beginners
The worst thing you can do is stop. Keep going and don’t think of the money think about how much you like writing. Like yourself and keep going.
Strategies to Maintain Productivity While Traveling
This is a big one. Whilst your travelling splitting your time between work and play can be a hard task to undertake but work when you can – right now I’m typing this blog out on my phone π±
Do what you can and let your inspiration flow but don’t jeopardise your experience of life – whilst travelling remember there is a real world πΊ out there. Of course you want to earn money but the Internet should never take that away from you.
Make time for blogging but make sure it isn’t the only thing you are doing.
Using Wealthy Affiliate Support and Resources to Navigate Challenges
OK, so, if you do decide to take my advice and join WA – be sure to talk to people and ask for help. It’s a great place to be and I hope you can see this for yourself.
Also, if you are signing up under me I can basically coach you myself. I am not the most experienced member here but I definitely have some pearls that I can give you.
